Your share of a sale reaches your OpenGiving wallet once the delivery is confirmed, and you withdraw from the wallet to PayPal.
Checkout doesn't pay you. We hold the buyer's money until the delivery is confirmed, and how that happens depends on what you sold.
What confirms a delivery
- A physical item — the buyer has a four-digit delivery code. They give it to you when the item arrives, and you enter it
- A digital item — the buyer's first download confirms it, so there's nothing for you to do
- A service — the buyer accepts the work, or it's accepted for them if they don't answer in time
The seller is paid when the delivery is confirmed.
What your share is
OpenGiving keeps 9% of the price of a physical item or a service. What's left is split between you and the campaign, in the share you picked when you listed it (10-100%, or 0-100% for a digital item).
A digital item pays none of that 9%. The buyer pays a flat $1.00 digital service fee on top of the price instead, so the whole price is split between you and the campaign.
The payment processing fee is added to what the buyer pays, so it doesn't come out of your share either.
Getting the money out of your wallet
Your balance stays in your wallet until you ask for it:
- Minimum — $10.00
- Where it goes — the PayPal email you type on the withdrawal request. That's the only detail we ask for
- Timing — Withdrawals up to $250.00 go out through PayPal automatically, usually within a few minutes. A larger one waits until someone on our team sends it.
Your wallet lists every credit and every withdrawal, so you can check what a sale paid and when.
Shipping is between you and the buyer
We don't ship anything and we don't arrange it. You and the buyer agree how the item gets there. A physical sale is confirmed by the code the buyer gives you, so the item has to arrive before you're paid.
