OpenGiving keeps 9% of the price of each physical item or service sold. Digital items pay a flat fee instead, and contributions pay no OpenGiving fee.
Checkout shows every fee before you pay. No surprises.
Fee Structure
OpenGiving's fee
- 9% of the price of a physical item or a service, taken out of the sale
- The campaign and the seller split what's left, in the share the seller chose
- It isn't taken from a tip, from shipping or from a contribution
Digital items
- Nothing is taken out of the price of a digital item
- The buyer pays a $1.00 digital service fee on top of the price, for each digital item
- $0.70 of that fee goes to the campaign and $0.30 to OpenGiving
Payment processing
- PayPal, or the card processor when you pay by card, charges a fee to move the money
- That fee is added to what the buyer or contributor pays, so it doesn't come out of the campaign's or the seller's share
- It depends on how you pay, so checkout shows the exact amount before you pay

For Campaign Creators
When someone contributes to your campaign:
- The campaign receives the whole contribution, because the contributor pays the processing fee on top
- Your dashboard shows what the campaign received
- Your balance accrues in your wallet, and you withdraw to your PayPal
For Marketplace Sellers
When you sell a physical item or a service:
- OpenGiving's 9% comes out of the price
- The campaign gets its share of what's left, and you keep the rest
- A $20.00 sale with 50% to the campaign: $1.80 to OpenGiving, $9.10 to the campaign and $9.10 to you
When you sell a digital item:
- Nothing comes out of the price. The buyer pays the digital service fee on top
- A $10.00 sale with 50% to the campaign: $5.00 to you, and $5.70 to the campaign, which is its $5.00 share plus $0.70 of the digital service fee
